An off-duty Saugeen Shores police officer is credited with saving the life of a woman in distress, off the shores of Port Elgin Tuesday.

Police say the officer, Const. Fletcher, saw three swimmers between 100 to 150 metres off shore near Gobles Grove, who were unable to swim due to high waves.

By the time PC Fletcher began his swim out with the aid of a floatation device, the two brothers, who were in their late teens, managed to make their way in. Their 20-year-old sister remained in distress and Fletcher was able to reach her and help her to shore.

All three refused medical attention.
