London Police released the statistics from this year's Project L.E.A.R.N., which includes the period of Western University's Homecoming festivities.

During Project L.E.A.R.N. - Liquor Enforcement and Reduction of Noise - extra patrols were conducted in the downtown area, Western University and Fanshawe College neighbourhoods.

The project operated one week less this year, compared to 2013, and during the full period the notices issued include:

Criminal Charges - 105

  • students - 15 (14.3 per cent)
  • non-students - 90 (85.3 per cent)

Provincial Offence Notices - 1,422

  • students - 849 (59.7 per cent)
  • non-students - 573 (40.3 per cent)

During Homecoming 2014 alone police issued two criminal offence notices and 213 provincial offence notices.

Overall, the number of criminal charges were up in 2014, while the number of provincial offence notices issued was down, and students continue to make up the minority among those facing criminal charges.

Total charges for Project L.E.A.R.N. in 2013:

Criminal Charges - 77

  • students - 15 (19.5 per cent)
  • non-students - 62 (80.5 per cent)

Provincial Offence Notices - 2,307

  • students - 1,278 (55.4 per cent)
  • non-students - 1,029 (44.6 per cent)

Police say that from their perspective, there were no major incidents this year, with the exception of the large crowd issues associated to the Broughdale Avenue area.
