A 72-year-old St. Thomas woman is in critical condition following a crash involving a hydro pole on Friday.
Police say a 58-year-old Central Elgin man was driving on Fairview Road near Sparta Line at a high rate of speed when his vehicle hit a hydro pole around noon.
The pole and wires fell on the road and were hit by a vehicle driven by the elderly woman. It caused power outages in several areas in Central Elgin.
The male driver is facing a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. He had minor injuries.
