The case of a woman charged with assaulting a hijab-wearing woman in London last month returned to court Thursday, but the accused didn't appear.

The lawyer for the 38-year-old woman told the court that her client is in hospital undergoing treatment for mental health.

Investigators say a woman was grocery shopping with her four-month-old son June 20 when she was approached by another woman.

Police say she suffered minor injuries when she was allegedly spat on, punched several times and had her hijab grabbed.

Police made an arrest the next day and charged a woman with assault.

She is to appear in court again on Aug. 4.
