Two adults, 3 children suffer serious to life-threatening injuries after fire pit incident near London, Ont.
Elgin OPP along with the Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating after two adults and three kids were injured following an incident involving a fire pit Monday evening.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Vienna Line in Bayham Township near Aylmer, Ont. around 6:50 p.m.
A seven-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A 33-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
OPP Cost. Troy Carlson says, "Five people remain in hospital...The nature of the injuries were severe burns, so we’re just trying to determine what happened to cause those burns."
Police say all five people are related and live at the home but no names have officially been released.
Police remained at the scene Tuesday as the investigation continues.
"Right now we still have officers on scene, we have the OPP Forensic Identification Unit, as well as Crime Unit members along with the Office of the Fire Marshal trying to determine a cause for this," Carlson says.
Officials are reminding the public to be cautious around outdoor fires.
"Fire pits can be dangerous and people need to take care when around it especially with small children and just being aware that there are dangers in association with fire pits and to take precautions when around them."
