It's going to be a damp weekend in southern Ontario, according to an Environment Canada weather statement.

The weather agency issued a statement Friday forecasting wet weather in an area spanning from Windsor to Ottawa. The statement said those in the affected areas can expect "significant rain" as a low pressure system blankets the city.

"In a lot of areas the rain will continue through Sunday afternoon and may be heavy at times," the statement said.

There is also a risk of thunderstorms over the weekend in southwestern Ontario.

Areas from Windsor to Toronto may see up to 60 millimetres of rain, and rainfall warnings may be issued if necessary. Approximately 20 to 40 millimetres is expected to fall over central and eastern Ontario.
