After more than a month, displaced residents of a London apartment building finally went back home Wednesday.
It was an emotional time for the 14 tenants at 85 Walnut St. who were evacuated during a fatal fire on Oct. 10 that claimed the life of one man, and destroyed much of the second floor.
Sean Delaney, 57, died in the fire.
Nearly everything on that floor had to be replaced and tere is still a faint burnt smell in the air.
The day’s highlight for the returning residents included a party with housing staff and others who’ve helped out.
“It feels good to be back in my apartment for sure,” says Ruth Kennedy. “I just can’t wait to get in to my own bed and have a good night's sleep.”
Another man was apprehensive and was asked why he is scared.
"I don’t know. Maybe because I want to hurry up and come home. I dont know if it's from what I left, what I'm coming home to. I haven't seen my apartment,” says Larry Houle.
Final repairs are still being done in some areas.
