London Mayor Matt Brown talked about the city’s strategic plan as he delivered the annual State of the City address Tuesday morning.
The event was held at the London Convention Centre, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The address is often used to set the tone for the coming year for the mayor and council.
Some of the topics included making the economy stronger and he highlighted some local tech entrepreneurs.
The speech did not include the traditional big jobs announcement, instead, it featured smaller successes in the tech sector and efforts to help entrepreneurs.
"I am pleased to announce the LEDC is launching London Inc,. a portal to connect to programs for up starts and growing businesses.
Ultimately, the mayor received a standing ovation but immediate reaction was that the mayor played it safe.
"In a general sense where the city is and where it's going. But no, there were no surprises in the speech I can say that," says Councillor Phil Squire.
Londoners may learn more about what's in store for the city from what wasn't in the address.
Little was learned about the three biggest decisions facing city hall in the coming weeks.
This includes whether to repair or decommission Springbank Dam, whether to fund the Back to the River Project and whether it should include a costly light rail line in the Rapid Transit Plan.
"Of course we know council has selected a preliminary proposed hybrid option, a combination of light rail and buses. I'm hard at work over next couple weeks talking to our funding partners," says Brown.
More than 1200 people attended the address.
This was second time Brown has delivered the address.
