The London Police Service will be implementing a six-month pilot project about fraud occurrence intakes.
The project will start on Saturday, as part of its service model review.
Someone reporting a fraud will contact London police by calling the non-emergency number 519-661-5670. A member of the headquarters reception unit will review the complaint and provide advice as necessary if the complaint does not meet the threshold of a fraud.
If the officer deems the complaint is a fraud and it requires an investigation, the call will be forwarded to the fraud section intake reporting line.
Police say over 1000 frauds are investigated each year. They say investigations sometimes get delayed because investigators have to prepare judicial authorizations to collect evidence that could be collected faster by the complainant.
This pilot project will measure the impact on the reduction of calls for service by patrol officers and the effectiveness of the complainant collecting accessible documents and other evidence.
