CBS veteran journalist and 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer, who announced his retirement this month, has died at the age of 84.

Safter, who worked at The London Free Press in the 1950s, was a mainstay on CBS in 1970 when he joined 60 minutes.

He claimed the co-host chair alongside Mike Wallace and remained with the broadcast for the rest of his life.

Safer once claimed, "There is no such thing as the common man," explaining, "If there were, there would be no need for journalists."
