A 30-year-old man is facing numerous charges following a home invasion in Sarnia on New Year's Day.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Overlea Crescent around 3:30 a.m. about a home invasion with weapons.

Officers then responded to the 300 block of Alexandra Street in Point Edward in connection with the incident.

At 8:20 p.m., police executed a search warrant and a man was arrested and held for a bail hearing. Two other suspects in this case have not yet been identified.

Police say this was not a random act and that the people involved were known to each other. 

They have recovered three weapons used in the home invasion, including a knife, pepper spray and a camouflaged Winchester 12 gauge pump action shotgun. 

The handgun allegedly used in this case remains unaccounted for.

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this matter or may have any information.

 Police are also attempting to locate the lawful owner of the shotgun. 

Gun owners are being asked to check their inventory for any missing firearms.

A Sarnia man has been remanded into custody and charged with :

  • Break and Enter and Commit Assault x4
  • Assault with a weapon x4 (pepper spray)
  • Assault with a weapon (firearm)
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm - Administering a Noxious Thing (pepper spray) x4 
  • Mischief – Interfering with Lawful Use, Enjoyment or Operation of Property
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Breach of Recognizance x3
  • Use Firearm While Committing Indictable Offence
  • Point Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Firearm – Having Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession
  • Possess Firearm While Prohibited
