TORONTO - The union representing Ontario's public elementary teachers says it has reached "understandings" with the Liberal government on a host of issues, but no tentative agreement just yet.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation says all of its discussions with the government have been focused on finding solutions without the government adding new money to the pot.
The union says the new understandings include better payouts for unused sick days for younger teachers, the same deal the government recently agreed to for high school teachers.
ETFO told its members last week that it was okay to return to supervising extracurricular activities, which the union withdrew from last fall to protest Bill 115, which imposed contracts on teachers with a two-year wage freeze.
A statement from the union says it is confident that ongoing talks with the government will result in a full agreement being reached.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation reached a new agreement with the government during the Easter weekend, but other than better payouts for unused sick time, details have not been made public.
