Highway 3 was closed at Springer Hill Road early Thursday morning following a head-on crash involving a pickup and a transport truck.
Police were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. for a reported collision.
Officials say a Grey 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was eastbound on Highway 3 when it crossed the centre line and collided head on with the tractor trailer.
The driver of the pickup, a 51-year-old Simcoe man, was extricated from his vehicle and transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no passengers in the pickup.
The driver and lone occupant of the transport, a 54-year-old Dutton-Dunwich man, was not injured.
Investigators with the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Unit were called in to assist with the investigation.
A detour route was in place for Highway 3 between Heritage Line and Culloden Road as police investigated, but the road re-opened shortly before 2:30 p.m.
It's unclear at this time if early morning fog was a factor in the collision, or in two other fatal crashes in the region Wednedsay night.
