Bruce Peninsula OPP say a Goderich man has died after a scuba diving expedition at Fathom Five National Marine Park.

Police were called to the park in Northern Bruce Peninsula on May 22 at 10:07 a.m. to conduct a death investigation.

The victim was one of eight scuba divers on a diving expedition to the Arabia off of Echo Island, within Fathom Five National Marine Park in Georgian Bay.

He had entered the water and showed no signs of distress. Shortly afterwards he was observed in medical distress and was assisted by fellow divers. The Canadian Coast Guard responded and brought him to shore for further medical attention.

Police say attempts to resuscitate the victim continued until such time he was pronounced deceased by the Coroner.

OPP say the deceased had been identified as Peter Lane, 67, of Goderich.

A post-mortem exam was completed resulting with the deceased having died of natural causes.

The Ministry of Labour was advised of the investigation.
