Two people died Friday in a fiery crash on Highway 3, east of St. Thomas.

Elgin OPP say it appears a Pontiac Grand Prix heading west on the highway, crossed the centre line into the path of a Honda Civic. A Dodge Ram pickup truck then struck both vehicles.

The Grand Prix caught fire and the driver of that car was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Patrick Harmon, 46 of St. Thomas, had to be extricated and was air lifted to Victoria Hospital, where he died.

Police have not yet been able to identify the driver of the Grand Prix.

The male driver of the truck, who was from Central Elgin, was not injured.

There was only one person in each of the vehicles.

The crash happened about one kilometre east of Belmont Road in Central Elgin about 6:30 p.m.

No names have been released and police continue the investigation.
