Groups opposed to Ontario Power Generation's proposal to bury nuclear waste near Lake Huron north of Kincardine are petitioning the federal Environment and Climate Change Minister.
Catherine McKenna's approval is another thing needed before the project can move ahead, and she has until December 2nd to make a decision.
A letter signed by 65 public interest groups was sent to McKenna Thursday asking her to halt the process.
According to the group Nuclear Waste Watch, 179 municipalities in Canada and the U.S. are urging government officials to halt the project.
