The London RCMP has charged a London man with fraud in connection with allegations he collected the pension benefits of a deceased relative for 19 years.
Myung-Joon Kang is facing one count of fraud over $5,000 for allegedly defrauding the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security of about $133,000.
The RCMP was contacted by Employment and Social Development Canada, after they found an overpayment of benefits.
Staff-Sgt. Steve Arthur, acting officer in charge of RCMP London Detachment, said in a statement “The RCMP is committed to working with our partners to investigate such activities and raise public awareness with regards to the consequences of defrauding the federal government and the tax payers of Canada.”
Kang is scheduled to appear in a London court on October 10th.
