Police in Owen Sound are thanking a concerned citizen for calling in suspicions that a man was driving while impaired.

Officials were contacted just after 2 p.m. Thursday by someone at a local business, who said a man who had been there was driving drunk.

Police soon found the Dodge Caravan parked at The Beer Store, but a short time later were able to conduct a traffic stop while the driver was behind the wheel.

Investigators say the 30-year-old man had an open container of beer in the vehicle and, when tested, blew more than twice the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood.

The man was taken into custody and found to be a disqualified driver for previous drunk driving convictions. He also had four driving suspensions.

His vehicle was towed and impounded for a period of 45 days.

The Owen Sound man was scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Police believe the citizen's action helped stop the driver before there was a collision or injury.
