A local president and CEO has been named to the Order of Ontario for 2025.

Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Chancellor of the Order of Ontario named PHSS Medical and Complex Care in Community Support Services President and CEO Brian Dunne to the list.

Dunne is among 29 others that have made contributions, working towards a stronger Ontario.

“It was humbling, and surprising, and emotional,” said Dunne. “ [This is] an organization that grew from families that had a hope and a dream that their sons and daughters could be part of community. People who, for many years were sent off into institution, not to be seen.”

“We are thrilled,” said PHSS Support Services Board Chair Brian Orr.

“This honour recognizes the advocacy, care, enthusiasm and passion for people that Brian brings to his work each day. On behalf of the people we support, their families, our staff and the Board of Directors, we are grateful for Brian’s leadership and congratulate him on being invested into the Order of Ontario.”

Dunne has been the president and CEO of PHSS, formerly known as Participation House Support Services, since it began in 1988. The organization gives lifetime care and support for people with complex needs, ensuring they have access to what their community has been offered and feel included and valued.

“I think we've been able to prove that people with the most complex of needs, have hopes and dreams. They have a life they want to live,” shared Dunne. “They want to be part of community, want to be part of their families. They want to enjoy the things we enjoy. And so, I think that's what we've been able to demonstrate.”

Dunne will be presented his honour at a ceremony in Toronto later in the year.
