A 36-year-old Ingersoll man has been charged with voyeurism for allegedly holding a cellphone under a woman's skirt at Masonville Mall.
Investigators say they received information on Wednesday that a video of the alleged act had been captured at the mall's movie theatre, though the video was posted to YouTube on Sept. 15.
London police Const. Frank Figliomeni says, "Whatever he used to film the episode was looked at to make sure that it was intact or not doctored up or clipped or edited in any way so we did investigate that as well to make sure it was legit."
Members of the London police Internet Child Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensic Unit, along with OPP, identified an adult male in relation to the alleged voyeurism.
A search warrant was then executed in Ingersoll, where the man was located and arrested and charged.
Megan Walker of the London Abused Women's Centre says these types of incidents still happen far too often.
"We still see the exploitation and abuse of women and girls and when they come in to our office they often blame themselves and we say no, the reality is that all women are potential victims of violence for no other reason than their gender."
Police have chosen not to identify the suspect, due to comments about the accused posted to social media.
"We haven't released it in case there's any retribution. We wouldn't want anyone taking anything into their own hands for something that is being dealt with through the criminal justice system."
The suspect is expected to appear in court later this month.
