The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Highway 403 and Oxford Road 29 were closed for much of the day after a fatal collision involving three transport trucks.

Oxford County OPP says the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes near Oxford Road 3 on Friday morning.

One person was transported to hospital with serious injuries, and OPP say the person later died of the injuries.

The crash was the second serious collision in the same area within a few hours.

In the first collision around 8:30 a.m., an eastbound transport struck the median and sent debris into the westbound lanes between the Drumbo Road and Cedar Creek Road exits.

That collision closed all eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes of Highway 401.

The westbound lanes reopened late Friday morning and the eastbound lanes were expected to reopen around 9 p.m.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators remained at the scene all day.
