A Woodstock man has spent eight years trying to make a stretch of Landsdowne Avenue safe for drivers and pedestrians alike in his city.

Roman Chorostil is pushing to get more guardrails installed along the road, which is close to Pittock Lake and a walking trail.

The fight started for him when a car ended up in the lake.

“I noticed there wasn't much of a guardrail. There was old guide wires. That's it. (They) were taken out for one reason of another,” Chorostil says.

Some guardrails have been installed but, he says, the road is still lacking barriers along a large section.

“It doesn't take much - God forbid - for a car to go out of control and anything can happen, at any time, even in the winter time."

The surroundings along the bend in the road have changed and there are more people using the road so Chorostil wants the guardrail to be completed.

“It shouldn't take years for something like this to be done."

A Woodstock engineer, familiar with the stretch of road, says the city would likely investigate the road again.

However, the engineer says, ministry guidelines have been followed when it comes to the guardrail.
