With a December 2nd deadline looming for a decision on plans to bury Ontario's low- and intermediate-level nuclear waste near Kincardine, the federal government has moved decision day to March 1, 2016.
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is awaiting federal government approval to proceed with plans to bury more than 200,000 cubic metres of low- and intermediate-level nuclear waste in an underground repository on the Bruce Power site near Kincardine.
A federal review panel gave the project a "green-light" earlier this year.
The previous Conservative government had promised a decision on the project by December 2nd, but the federal Liberals say they'll have a decision on the controversial project no later than March 1, 2016.
For their part, OPG says they respect the Minster of Environment's "need for more time to review the Joint Review Panel's recommendation to move forward with the project."
