Deceased identified in the Haldimand truck crash
On Monday August 25th, 2014 at approximately 1:45 am Haldimand OPP and EMS were called to the intersection of Hwy #6 and Fifth Line for a transport truck and pickup truck collision.
OPP say the investigation has revealed that a 2013 Freightliner transport truck being operated by 56 year old Ted ROWE of Glencoe, ON was southbound on Hwy #6 when it was hit broad side by an eastbound 2005 Chevy pickup truck travelling on Fifth Line. The impact of the collision sent the pickup truck into the south ditch, with the transport truck coming to a stop on the shoulder of Hwy #6.
Police also report the driver of the pickup truck identified as 29 year old John HILL and his passenger 33 year old Peter BOMBERRY both of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending Coroner.
A third passenger in the pickup identified as 30 year old Josh BURNHAM also of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory had to be extricated by Haldimand County Fire Department and received emergency medical aid from Haldimand County paramedics before being transport to a Hamilton hospital. He remains in hospital and is currently listed as being in serious condition.
Further investigation has revealed that the pickup truck registered to a New Brunswick address was reported stolen on Thursday Aug 21st, 2014 from a Halton Region, ON address.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the collision investigation.
Lack of seatbelt use, speed, and failing to stop for a stop sign are being considered as contributing factors in this collision.
Fifth Line is controlled by stop signs for both east and west bound traffic.
Hwy #6 was closed for 8 ½ hours to allow for investigation clean up.
