London city council has voted 14 to 1 in favour of demolishing three heritage homes on Talbot Street to make way for a highrise development.
The demolition of the Victoria-era homes and re-zoning in the city's downtown will bring a new highrise condominium on the site.
The city's planning committee had already unanimously recommended the move last week after presentations from both sides in the heritage fight.
London-based developer Tricar plans to build a 30-storey residential highrise at the corner of Talbot Street and Dufferin Avenue.
Members of council have pointed to The London Plan's push for upward growth in the city core as part of the reason for moving forward.
