The City of London says it will conduct an inspection of the Springbank Dam in the coming days.
Officials say the investigation is to better define the extent of damage to the dam.
The city also says people living near the area will notice a crane on the dam's deck along with divers in the water.
As part of its investigation the city hopes to raise three of the four gates.
One of the dam gates broke in June of 2008 and it has not operated since.
The city launched a $5.5 million lawsuit to try and recover the cost of fixing the structure.
That lawsuit is slated to go before the courts early next year.
