All the evidence is in at bush party shooting trial

For the second day in a row, Crown Attorney Jennifer Moser continued to grill the accused, telling him that he concocted lies to protect himself in the days and weeks following the bush party for young people off of Pack Road in southwest London in July of 2021.

She told Carlos Guerra Guerra, 23, that he wasn’t being truthful in the hours and weeks following the shooting that left one person dead.

He responded, "I didn't want to go to jail, I was scared that's why I lied to them."

Again, Moser hammered away at why the aspiring rap artist was driving around London on the night of the shooting with a loaded handgun and Guerra Guerra responded, "The truth is what I said, I wanted that firearm to make a promotional video for my music."

Moser continued, "You brought that gun that night in case you had to use it?"

He answered, "I disagree."

Moser said after being called out to the party by his distraught friend Emily Altmann, he put on a mask and was ready for a fight, asking, "You killed an innocent boy in cold blood. You did not do it in self defence?”

Guerra Guerra told the court there was a person standing over him with a machete, adding, "I fired and feared for my life."

Josue Silva, 18, would die after being shot in the stomach while at the bush party with friends.

Several days later, Guerra Guerra would be arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon. He has pleaded not guilty.

Before wrapping up, Moser pressed on one more time, asking, "This offence that you committed was the intentional killing of Josue Silva, right?"

He responded, "Ms. Moser there was no intent behind Josue Silva dying."

Guerra Guerra would be the only defence witness called to the stand.

With all of the evidence now in, the eight-week trial has been adjourned until Dec. 30 when closing arguments will be heard in the case.
