Two London police officers charged with assault have had those charges dropped.

Const. Theresa Clayton was facing one count of assault causing bodily harm and Const. Jeff Lake was charged with assault related to the arrest of a 40-year-old man in June of 2016.

The man was injured and taken to hospital.

The Ministry of the Attorney General says the Crown examined all aspects of the evidence in this case and concluded that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

"As in all cases, the Crown has a duty to assess the strength of a case throughout a prosecution, and is duty bound to withdraw charges if there is no reasonable prospect of conviction, or if it is not in the public interest to proceed," a Ministry spokesperson said.
