One of many volunteers who were searching for a two-year-old girl who went missing Sunday night near Norwich, found the girl unharmed Monday morning.

OPP say Brooklyn Honderich was located around 10 a.m. in a corn field not far from the farm where she lives.

"One of our volunteer searchers...located her in the edge of a cornfield," Const. Larry Plummer told CTV News Channel, estimating that Honderich was found about a kilometre away from where she was last seen.

Plummer said the girl was safe and being taken to hospital as a precaution, “She’s with the paramedics right now. I haven’t got an evaluation, but it sounds promising."

The lengthy search began Sunday night after Brant OPP were called to a home southeast of Norwich around 7:20 p.m., the girl had last been seen at her residence around 7 p.m.

OPP actively searched the rural area using a helicopter and the canine unit in an attempt to located the child without success.

Ultimately it was one of the numerous volunteers from the community who arrived on scene to help with the search that found the girl.

Steve, who didn't want to give his last name, credits his faith with helping him find her.

"I called her name and I wasn't hearing anything, and I said 'Brooklyn, do you want to go to mommy?' And I just heard a little girl crying, and I just followed the noise and it took me right to her."

Fortunately it was a warm night and Brooklyn was well-dressed, and within a couple of hours, the girl was running and laughing with her older sister after a quick check up.

Drew Honderich, Brooklyn's father, says his wife was caring for their older daughter and he was milking cows when the two-year-old chased their dog into the field and became disoriented. He says it all happened very quickly.

The response from the community was equally speedy, he says, "A few minutes after police said that people could come help, I was told that the community centre was totally packed so...that's amazing. We're new in that area so, people don't even know us, and they helped us out."
