Trojan Technologies, which has been working with researchers to improve water treatment, has been presented with the Mitacs Award for Exceptional Leadership.
The London-based company is a world leader in water treatment, including ultraviolet disinfection and filtration, to deal with common microbial contamination issues in drinking water and wastewater.
The inaugural award was presented by Mitacs, a national not-for-profit that promotes Canadian research and training, and recognizes industrial partners who have distinguished themselves through their work with Mitacs
Rob Annan, Mitacs CEO, said in a statement “Companies like Trojan are helping to develop an innovation-based economy in Canada.”
As part of the Mitacs program, Trojan worked with researchers at Western University, the University of British Columbia, the University of Guelph, McMaster University, the University of Waterloo and the University of Windsor.
In a statement, Ted Mao, vice president of research at Trojan, said, "By tapping into the expertise of the researchers, we gain valuable in-house skills and knowledge that we wouldn’t have otherwise."
He added that academic researchers accelerate the work and give interns opportunities to solve real-world problems, providing them with the industry experience required to launch successful careers.
