London police say collisions were up in 2014 and have released a list of city intersections with the most crashes.
Officials say there were six per cent more crashes in the city in 2014, compared to 2013, totalling over 10,000 collisions.
The city intersections with the highest numbers of collisions were:
- Wellington Rd. and Commissioners Rd. - 78
- Highbury Ave. and Oxford St. - 77
- Highbury Ave. and Hamilton Rd. - 76
- Wonderland Rd. and Oxford St. - 73
- Fanshawe Park Rd. and Adelaide St. - 71
- Wharncliffe Rd. and Oxford St. - 68
- Sarnia Rd. and Wonderland Rd. - 63
- Southdale Rd. and Wonderland Rd. - 58
- Oxford St. and Adelaide St. - 56
- (Tied for 9th) Oxford St. and Richmond St. - 56
Fully half of the intersections involved were along Oxford St., accounting for a total of 330 collisions.
Despite warnings, police say many of the crashes were preventable - caused by distracted, impaired or aggressive drivers.
In fact, London police issued 2,187 offence notices for driving while holding or using a hand-held device in 2014, a 30 per cent increase over 2013.
Officers will continue to conduct proactive enforcement at many of the high-collision intersections and London police hope to work with residents to discourage dangerous driving behaviours and reduce the number of collisions.
