Huron County OPP say a man working on a barge off the shores of Goderich was injured in an accident on Tuesday.
Police were called to the area off North Harbour Road around 2 p.m. after an incident on the barge, which was being used to do repair work to the North Harbour break wall, about a kilometre off-shore.
According to investigators, the worker was securing the barge when a tracked excavator reversed slightly on deck, and at the same time a large wave hit causing the man to lose his footing and step backwards into the tracks.
The 71-year-old London man's legs reportedly became caught underneath the track for a short period of time.
He was immediately transported to shore by boat and then to a local hospital by Huron County EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
Ontario Ministry of Labour inspectors were called to the scene and are investigating.
