Work underway to salvage Bayfield's historic Albion Hotel following roof collapse

Share

Efforts are underway to try and salvage the Albion Hotel in Bayfield.

The historic building’s roof collapsed early Sunday morning under the weight of heavy snowfall, and rain. No one was in the building at the time of the collapse, and no one was injured, but the structure which was built in the 1840’s suffered extensive damage.

After meticulously removing the Albion’s damaged roof yesterday, crews from across Ontario were on Bayfield’s Heritage Main Street today working toward protecting the exposed second floor from the elements.

Neighbours on scene today thought a temporary roof or roof covering of some kind was going to be installed to keep the incoming snow from causing more damage to the historic structure.

In the meantime, over $50,000 has been raised to help out the 27 Albion staff, who will be without a job for the foreseeable future.
