Norfolk County OPP are looking for a suspect after an attempted theft of a purse from a 74-year-old woman at the Simcoe Town Shopping Centre.

Police were called to the West Street location shortly after noon on Wednesday for reports of an attempted robbery.

Officials say a St. Catharines, Ont. woman was getting into her vehicle in the parking lot when a male allegedly grabbed her purse from her shoulder.

As the man fled westbound, police say the woman reportedly threw a can of tuna, hitting the male in the back and causing him to drop the purse.

The continued to flee toward Metcalfe Street as the woman recovered her purse and contacted police.

The suspect is described as a male in his mid-20s, wearing a baseball cap and a dark t-shirt.
