Provincial police are investigating a third release of mink from a southwestern Ontario farm in just two months.
Wellington County OPP were called to a mink farm on Jones Baseline, near Guelph, Ont., early Friday for a break and enter.
Officials say the break-in happened sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday.
The suspect(s) allegedly entered the barn and released about 300 mink.
Earlier this month, 6,800 mink were released from a St. Marys-area farm after someone cut large openings in the perimeter fence then released the mink from their cages.
In late May, another farm near St. Marys saw 1,600 mink released. Both Perth County break-ins remain under investigaiton.
Some in the mink industry have alleged that animal welfare activists are involved in the releases, but no suspects have been identified.
After the second release near St. Marys, the Canada Mink Breeders Association increased its reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction to $100,000.
