St. Thomas city council is moving forward with a plan for a new police headquarters.
By a vote of five to two council accepted a bid from M.J. Dixon Construction to build the new headquarters at a cost of $10.7-million plus HST.
The vote was not unanimous as some councillors felt it would be more cost effective to renovate the existing building.
The deal to rebuild would include construction of the building and the extension of Third Avenue to Talbot Street.
Police Chief Darryl Pinnell took to Twitter Tuesday morning applauding council's decision to build a new station and to thank police and city staff for their hard work.
