A robbery and assault took place Monday afternoon at a jewelry store in St. Thomas and the suspect remains on the loose.

The robbery happened around 2:40 p.m. at B & L Jewellers, where a female employee and a customer were allegedly assaulted during the incident.

Police say a lone male entered the store, assaulted two people and then fled through the rear door with an unknown quantity of jewelry, some of which could be seen on the ground outside the shop.

St. Thomas police set up a perimeter and the K9 Unit was called in to search for the suspect, but they were ultimately unsuccessful.

The store employee was transported to hospital to be treated for her injuries. The other victim suffered minor injuries, but the incident was traumatic for both, according to police.

Police continue to investigate and say more details will be released when they become available.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact St. Thomas police or Crime Stoppers.
