Sarnia Police say they are investigating a violent neighbor dispute where a couple was allegedly assaulted.

Police say it took place around 5 p.m. Wednesday night on Fairview Place and involved two men who were initially involved in a verbal dispute.

The 33-year-old suspect allegedly began punching the victim in the head and when the victim’s wife attempted to intervene she was allegedly assaulted as well.

Police say the suspect then went to his residence and returned brandishing a handgun.

The victim was able to flee and the suspect demanded that the victim’s wife give him the keys to their van and she complied, say police.

The suspect fled in the van which was later spotted by an OPP officer who initiated a pursuit. The pursuit was called off in the interest of public safety as they approached Wallaceburg.

The vehicle was located abandoned outside of Wallaceburg and the handgun was recovered in the van.

Sarnia Police will be requesting a warrant for the suspect.
