London Knights win again, enter holiday break atop OHL standings

Winners of 21 of their past 23 games, the London Knights enter the holiday break with a five-point lead at the top of the OHL standings.

London got two goals each from Denver Barkey and rookie Logan Hawery in a 6-1 rout of the Sarnia Sting Friday at Canada Life Place.

Even without some of their biggest stars, who are away at the World Junior Hockey Championships, London (27-6-0-0) continues to roll.

With Easton Cowan, Oliver Bonk and Sam Dickinson absent, others have stepped up.

Blake Montgomery scored for the tenth time in 12 games, and added two assists to earn First Star honours.

Sam O’Reilly scored for the third straight game, and goalie Austin Elliott stopped 26 of 27 shots to improve to 14-0 since joining the Knights.

Prior to the game Friday, the Knights remembered Carol Steadman, who passed away this week.

Carol is the mother of assist. Coach Rick Steadman, and the sister of head coach Dale Hunter and general manager Mark Hunter.

“Her legacy of selflessness, kindness and love will be remembered by all those who had the privilege of spending time with her,” the Knights wrote on X.

London will now take a break until Dec. 29 when they return to Flint to face the Firebirds.

They follow that with their annual New Years home-and-home series with Sarnia.
