Pop star Justin Bieber has been charged with dangerous driving and assault after an incident near his hometown of Stratford.
Provincial police say they responded to a collision between a minivan and an ATV on Line 40, east of Road 106 on Friday afternoon.
Officials say Bieber, 20, who was driving the ATV, then got into a physical altercation with an occupant in the minivan.
Perth County OPP Const. Kees Wijnands says "It appeared that one of the occupants of the van and the operator of the ATV had words. There was an altercation that took place and as a result of that, we ended up arresting Justin Bieber."
A statement from Brian H. Greenspan, Bieber's legal representative, says they are hopefuly the matter can be quickly resolved.
"Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez' peaceful retreat in Stratford this weekend was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of paparazzi. This has regrettably resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault. Mr. Bieber and Ms. Gomez have fully cooperated in the police investigation."
Police would not confirm if the occupants of the minivan were paparazzi, but did say "Justin's demeanour, when we dealt with him, was very positive."
There were no injuries, and police are not releasing any details regarding the altercation on the severity of the collision.
Bieber was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Stratford on Sept. 29.
