An emotional debate over religion versus Remembrance Day appears to be growing in Lucan, north of London.

It comes after Wilberforce Public School decided to hold its own Remembrance Day service, instead of sending children to the annual community-wide event because of a prayer used in the service.

According to the organizer of the event, Wilberforce opted to not to participate a while ago.

"Wilberforce school at the meeting last year when the scouts and the schools got together, said they didn't want prayer at Remembrance Day," says organizer Barb Tuxford.

Wilberforce has instead organized its own service.

Lucan veteran William Hurl says their absence at the traditional event will be a big loss.

"It's just a foolish discussion to have...I mean the prayer lasts all of one minute," says Hurl.

No one from Wilberforce school or the Thames Valley District School Board chose to comment on the issue, although the school has decided to offer busing to those children whose families would like them to attend the community service.
