Officials are investigating after one person died in a house fire just east of Wallaceburg in Chatham-Kent.
Fire departments received a report of a structure fire on Pond Road near Wallaceburg around 9:40 p.m.
Fire crews from Wallaceburg, Dresden, and Tupperville arrived to find a fire at the rear of a single family home and were quickly able to extinguish the blaze. However, officials say the lone occupant of the residence died as a result of the fire.
The fatality and the cause of the fire are under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marhsall’s Office and the Chatham-Kent Police.
The deceased individual’s identity has not been released.
Damage to the home is estimated to be $150,000. There was heavy smoke damage as a result of the fire.
