TORONTO - Environment Canada says much of southern Ontario could face severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

The weather agency is warning residents to prepare for possible heavy downpours, large hail and damaging winds.

Areas from Windsor to Huron County could be affected.

Environment Canada says a line of thunderstorms has been observed extending from near Goderich to just each of Lake St. Clair.

It says the storms are moving eastwards while strong storms have also been observed over southern lower Michigan.

The special weather statement was issued early this morning.
