A London courtroom heard that co-accused Amanda Dumont and Scott Bakker were allegedly more concerned about themselves than their badly burned child.
That was just part of the Crown's closing arguments at the Baby Ryker trial.
In her closing arguments Crown attorney Elizabeth Maguire told the court the mother of Ryker Daponte-Michaud was a liar who was trying to conceal the extent of her son's brutal injuries.
Maguire said Dumont and her former partner Scott Bakker had little contact with Ryker as he died three days after being scalded with hot instant coffee.
“They simply forgot about him,” Maguire said. “They were so absorbed in their own business.
Dumont the child's mother and Bakker have both pleaded not guilty to criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
When it comes to Bakker, Maguire told the court that despite the fact that he's not Ryker's biological father, he played a role in the child's life.
Dumont's lawyer Ken Marley says the judge has a lot to review.
The case is now in the hands of Justice Renee Pomerance.
She will hand down her decision in the case on Sept. 28.
