Nearly all Ontario homes are now required to have carbon monoxide detectors.

As of Wednesday, CO detectors will be mandatory by law in every home in Ontario with a fuel burning appliance or has an attached garage, as part of the carbon monoxide alarm law.

The detectors must be placed near all sleeping areas and in service rooms adjacent to sleeping areas in multi-residential homes.

According to the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, over 50 people die of carbon monoxide poisoning each year across Canada, including 11 in Ontario.
