With a cold snap expected Tuesday night, the Middlesex-London Health Unit has issued a cold weather alert.

Environment Canada is calling for temperatures to drop to -17C overnight, with wind chill values near -25C.

This third alert of the year comes into effect Thursday evening and will remain in place until Wednesday when the daytime high is expected to reach -4C.

Iqbal Kalsi, manager of environmental health with the health unit, said in a statement, “Although this latest Cold Weather Alert is going to be brief in duration, it’s important to remember that we don’t need an extended period of extreme cold to cause problems for people who spend time outdoors.”

He adds that it can take just a few minutes for exposed skin to be damaged by frostbite when temperatures drop below -15C.
