If you were in the area of Manning Drive and White Oak road this morning that was not fog affecting visibility it was smoke.

Fire crews were called to the City of London Landfill on Manning Drive shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday after a large garbage fire at the depot.

Columns of smoke could be seen from several hundred metres away, and visibility along area roads was poor.

Due to the location of the fire, tankers were forced to travel back and forth to a water fill up station. The fire itself was located far back on the property.

The cause at this time is unknown but landfill piles are known to become quite hot and can combust as a result.

No injuries have been reported.
