More than 2,000 pigs have died after a barn fire west of Parkhill, Ont. early Tuesday morning.
OPP say the large structure fire started around 3 a.m. on Parkhill Drive near Prance Road.
A few silos remain standing, but the barn, which was located at the back of the property, was destroyed.
No people were injured in the fire, according to OPP, and no cause has been determined.
Police say the fire isn't considered suspicious, but fire officials continue to investigate and the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been notified.
Don McCabe, president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, says cold weather may have been a factor in the recent string of barn fires, with more strain on heaters and wiring.
This is the second barn fire in the London area since Sunday and the fifth in southwestern Ontario this month.
The first, a fire at Classy Lane Stables near Guelph, killed 43 racehorses. Horses, goats, cattle and chickens were killed in three other blazes
McCabe adds that while larger operations have alarm systems, there are no regulations requiring fire alarms or sprinklers in barns, and the latter would be hard to keep from freezing anyway.
