A 60-year-old woman has died following a fire at an apartment building in the area of Huron Street and Adelaide Street.
Fire crews were called to a unit a 630 Huron Street around 3:40 a.m. for a reported fire. Once inside they found the woman without vital signs, attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.
Members of the London Police Criminal Investigations Unit are involved in the investigation.
Officials say the basement apartment unit was heavily damaged and most of the fire had burned itself out upon their arrival.
No one else was injured in the fire at the three storey walk-up apartment building.
Though the cause remains under investigation, an early estimate for damages is set around $100,000.
Police remain on scene this morning while the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is expected to attend as well.
House fire on Ryersie Road:
Fire crews also battled a house fire in the Masonville area on Ryersie Road.
Officials say the fire was contained to the garage and attic, but two cars were also damaged in the fire.
No one was injured as the family was able to escape.
The cause is under investigation and a damage estimate is to be around $200,000.
