London police say an 18-year-old woman has been rescued from human trafficking and a Mississauga man is facing numerous charges.
Officers were called to a Dundas Street hotel around 9 a.m. Saturday after staff reported that a female told them she had been assaulted by a man.
Investigators found the 18-year-old was being used as a prostitute after responding to an online posting over the summer from a man with an offer to make money in the sex trade.
Police allege that as time progressed, the male permitted her to keep less and less of her money until the he kept all of her earnings.
She was reportedly trafficked in hotels or motels in Thunder Bay, Mississauga, Burlington and London.
On Saturday, police say woman was assaulted and her money was stolen before the man left the hotel room and that's when she reported the assault to hotel staff.
A Mississauga man was arrested later that day with assistance from Peel Regional Police and transported back to London.
As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Anthony Greenham of Mississauga, has been charged with:
- trafficking in persons
- receiving financial benefit from trafficking in person
- procuring illicit sexual intercourse
- procuring person to be a prostitute
- exercise control of a person for the purpose of prostitution
- assault
- theft under $5,000
The London Police Service is encouraging anyone in a similar situation to reach out to police for assistance.
